Public Speaking and Communication Skills Masterclass

Communication is a way we express our thoughts and feelings to someone. The essence of communication is to ‘inform, entertain, influence or persuade’ your listeners.  A question that passes through our mind while we step on the stage, “Am I the ready for it?”, the hesitation to deliver surrounds the mind. Fear is the biggest hindrance that clogs our mind to think and make a connection with our audience. A takeaway strategy was to ‘MOVE’;

M – Minutes before the speech, say to yourself, “I am phenomenal.”

O – Open the Speech: First few seconds grab the attention of the audience.

V – Vocal variety and body language: Hold the attention of the audience with vocal variations or pauses.

E – End the speech: End with a call to action, that’s the moment to influence the audience.

    The session highlighted how the mind is never at rest and is always  in need of some food to process the thoughts.

    A child at an early age starts thinking and reacting to the actions and situations around him. It is very important to make a child empathize with the situation around them. They need to assess their surroundings and open up to the thoughts which encourage them to think or question, 'why', 'who' and 'how'. That's where they make a connect to their surroundings which triggers the 4 C's of critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication.
    The session emphasised that when education is integrated with design thinking, the learnings become learner - oriented and all learners succeed in the project. They visualize the surroundings with their prospective, identify the need for the society and come up with their innovations to fill in the gaps. Thinking and empathizing helps a child realize "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.'

        Back to future- nurturing love and fostering responsibility

        Nature has given us a lot and will keep on giving and nurturing our lives. We teach our children about what we get from nature, i.e. the fruits, vegetables, animals and their habitat, but, our teachings are not limited to this. We must understand the importance and effects of nature and the life present on Earth. Being empathetic towards our planet is the need of the hour which has to pass from us to the next generation. The learners of tomorrow learn from our actions, lead them by example and not by lecture. Enlighten them with the importance of waste management in our everyday life. Encourage the curiosity within a child to ask ‘why’ and to understand the environment around them through music and other engaging fun activities.

          Role of environment in mental health and healing

          The time may be tough but our environment has the power to heal. We may be forced to adopt the new normal which has in some way reflected in our ways of life. The pandemic has challenged many people to fight through the difficult times of anxiety or to keep up with mental health. With times leading to change in the lifestyle, many people have adopted yoga or meditation to relax their minds. Another way to keep our mind healthy is to get back to nature, as it embraces us with love and affection. It does not demand much but can give healing in some time. Give yourself a priority, a connection with our environment heals our mind and body.

            The how of developing environmental sensibilities: past and present

            A force that leads the people to awaken their spirits of life and energy is through our environment. The scriptures like our Vedas and Purans spread awareness about the importance and the elements of nature. The hymns of shlokas spread positivity in the environment and enchant the message of taking care of our surroundings brings us closer to the heavenly beauty we are blessed with. It is important to Inculcate the connection with nature among the children, give them the freedom to think and analyze the present situation and come up with different ideas to save the environment. Nature holds our past, it has been helping us sustain life till date. It’s time to play our part and preserve it for the future.

              Learners With Special needs: Walking Hand in Hand with Reading Eggs

              Education is not limited to a classroom or to a specific group of children. A learner is hidden somewhere in each one of us, we only need to assess the learning needs. Every child is blessed with different learning ability and a different skill set. As an educator, it becomes our responsibility to give the learners a suitable and conducive environment to satisfy their learning needs. We need to focus on developing the skills of every child to foster their strengths. Learning doesn’t confide to academics, it spreads its wings to developing physical and social skills in a child. It has become imperative to have differentiated instructions for children with different skill set and capabilities.
